Our Story
We are two friends who met as freshman-year roommates in college. Megan minored in studio art and enjoys anything creative: sewing, knitting, paper crafts, stamp-making, painting, and of course, illustration! During graduate school, Sarah happened to hear about a letterpress studio in the basement of an undergraduate dorm and was immediately hooked after signing up for a workshop. A year later, Sarah helped Megan print her wedding invitations—designed by Megan, of course—and not long after, Bergamot Studios was born.
Bergamot Studios is named for our favorite flavor at the ice cream shop we frequented in college—Earl Grey!
Process
After discussing your custom project, either by email or a phone/video consultation, we create one or two digital mockups of possible designs and ask for your feedback. Our design process is very iterative and we work to make sure we get it right.
Once the design is finalized, we send the digital file off to be made into a polymer printing plate. We then do a few test prints, mix the ink (any Pantone color is possible!), and print everything on a vintage Vandercook No. 4 press.
Sustainability
Sustainability is important to us and we try to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible:
Our house paper is 100% cotton rag paper, which is produced from cotton waste generated by the textile industry. We are also happy to source recycled or bamboo paper upon request.
We use a carbon-neutral shipping service.
We may ship your purchase to you using some gently-used packaging materials. Please let us know if you'd prefer otherwise!
Wherever possible, we try to reuse materials, and nearly everything else is recycled.
